Portfolio section of a website is the place where the company display its works. The works that the company has done in the past is stored in a separate section of the website that has different names like Portfolio or Our works, or any creative name that the business comes up with. Having a portfolio section in a website is important and comes under one of the important pages while determining the layout at the time of website designing. It tells your targeted audience what kind of works you have done in the past. Based on this your audience will create an image of your brand in their minds. This is why it is of utmost importance that a lot of thought and time is put in while deciding which of the projects that the company has worked upon should go into the portfolio section. There are some common mistakes that companies make while designing the portfolio section.
Following are some of the things that a company should avoid putting in company website portfolio:
- When it comes to adding projects in portfolio section of the website, a balance has to be maintained. Too much of projects listed in the portfolio will cause confusion and take too much time of the customer. Too little of projects listed would give out the message that you haven’t done much work and are inexperienced. So a balance has to be maintained, of all the works that your company has done choose the best ones and put it on display.
- Don’t just put up images of your best work without any explanation. Put yourself in the shoes of your customer, you visit the portfolio section and there are just names listed in it without any explanation or links. For instance if you are a web development company then while mentioning your best works in portfolio section give a link to it so that when a customer clicks on those project they will be redirected to that particular website.
- Never add outdated projects in the portfolio section of your business website. They may been one of your best works but if they are not in match with the ongoing trends of the market then it is best not to put them on display. By doing so you may lose some customer, as they might think that the company is still involved in building old products or services that may not be of any use now.
- Never put up projects that might have ended on a bad terms. Business comes with its own share of good and bad experiences. Suppose one of your projects ended on a bad note due to some issues, but that was also among one of your best works, still don’t put it up in the portfolio section. No matter how good the project would be if the client doesn’t has a good impression about your business then it is better to avoid adding them in to the best works section.
